Joining Start in Salford offers you the chance to improve your artistic talents, to meet new people and develop your social or career opportunities. Take a look at the services we offer and the Start gallery section to see if what we do is just what you're looking for!
We welcome anyone with an interest in learning about art, music or gardening, you don't need to have any previous experience in any of the activities at Start in Salford.
To become a member of Start in Salford you will need to complete a referral form with your support worker or CPN. You will then be invited to come and look round the studios and talk with us about your needs, goals and aspirations so that you can decide whether Start is the right place for you.
Start the journey... a step by step guide
Step one:
Start in Salford receive your completed referral form which is then allocated to a tutor during our team meeting.
Step two:
The tutor then calls you/your support worker to arrange a visit to Start to enable you to look around and get a feel of the place. The date and time of the visit is then confirmed in writing and a letter is sent to you/your support worker.
Step three:
At date and time of the appointment you and your support worker will arrive at Start in Salford. The tutor whom arranged your visit will meet you in reception and you’ll begin a tour of the building.
Step four:
You will look round all our studios, workshops, garden and members areas where you can see and ask questions about the sessions and activities available to you. Remember you don't need to have any previous experience in any of the activities we offer.
Step five:
After the tour you’ll sit down with a cup of tea and have an informal chat with the tutor about what sort of things you fancy doing when you come to Start. This could be anything from photography, woodwork, ceramics, take a look at the activities on offer within the Creative arts section of this website.
Step six:
If you are still unsure about which activities you want to undertake then simply go home and have a think about it. When you have decided, you or your support worker can contact us again and we will check the availability in the class you have specified, and arrange a start date.
Step seven:
A letter of confirmation of your start date will then be sent by your sessional tutor to yourself/support worker.
Final step:
You arrive at Start for your first session and enjoy!
