Sometimes it’s hard to explain why you’re feeling down. You just feel sad, anxious, maybe even tearful and have no confidence left. Start time out will give you a break from the pressure with support, encouragement and laughter to create or do something that makes you feel proud.

Our free and confidential Arts on Prescription service brings people together in friendly, understanding groups to try out a variety of creative activities. Start time out helps people just like you to feel better about today and tomorrow.

Start time out offers you up to two sessions weekly, each lasting two hours and all materials and equipment are provided. Professional artists are there to help you as much as you need and will guide you through a series of activities which could include: pottery, gardening, photography and more... You can try a variety of activities and choose what you like best. Beginners are especially welcome.

The project is flexible and can last up to six months. During that time you can look at opportunities in volunteering, leisure interests, employment and education. Or, having enjoyed your six months of sessions with us, you may then decide to join our member-led art group and develop your creative skills for the future.

To join our Arts on Prescription service talk to your GP or health worker, or call Anne-Marie or June on 0161 351 6000. Alternatively email Anne-Marie Rickus Start Time Out Arts coordinator,

Start Time Out news updates

Mocha Parade Outreach Art Sessions

As part of the Time Out, Arts on Prescription programme there has been an outreach visual art session taking place at Mocha Parade since February 2011.

This is in addition to the sessions that take place at Start's Studios and was started due to individuals not always being able to access the main programme due to transport issues.

The sessions have been taking place weekly and led by artist Mark Jones.

The sessions are well attended, with people producing some lovely artwork. Smile

Constance Fearn's blog goes live!!

Check out Constance Fearn's blog - http://constancefearn.wordpress.com

Constance previously completed the Time Out, Arts on Prescription project before going onto college to do an Art Foundation course at MANCAT. She is now concentrating on her work, which is fantastic! Smile Have a look at her stunning artwork & find out what she's been up to on her blog.

Arts on Prescription member Sarah Dearden finishes the six month programme!

Sarah Dearden has just come to end of her time on the Time Out, Arts on Prescription project and has enjoyed every second!

During her six months Sarah has been attending a Visual Art session to concentrate on her drawing and painting and also tried other artforms including ceramics.

Sarah says 'I have loved every single second of being here and can honestly say it has changed my life!!'

Goodbye Sarah!

Sarah Malone, ceramic artist extraordinaire, has said goodbye to Start!
Sarah has worked on the Time Out, Arts on Prescription project for the last four years, delivering ceramic art sessions.
Sarah has done a fantastic job over the years and will be greatly missed by staff, members and volunteers. Sarah now intends to concentrate on her own work and we wish her every success with this. Smile

Time Out member Wendy, finishes her masterpiece!

Wendy Hardman, Time Out Arts on Prescription member, has created an impressive work of art during her six months on the programme.

Wendy spent time in the Woodwork department making a dog house for her beloved pet Toby. She then moved into the Art sessions, where she used a variety of tiles to mosaic the roof of the structure.

It was an ambitious project and the end result looks amazing. Well done Wendy, you should feel very proud of yourself! We hope Toby will be very happy in his new home!

AOP volunteer Constance Fearn leads her first sessions!

Arts on Prescription volunteer Constance Fearn has recently successfully led a 6 week member skill share session for the user led group. The work produced in the sessions were outstanding and feedback from members has been very positive. Well done Constance, we are so proud of you.

Donations a plenty thanks to Pilkington Tiles & B&Q

Our Arts on Prescription service has made links with Pilkington Tiles and B&Q in relation to materials and resources that they may be able to offer Start. Pilkington Tiles have kindly donated tiles for the mosaic group which will be an ongoing arrangement, and B&Q have recently donated tiles, paints and plants for the garden. We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks.
