Start in Salford's Plea for your VOTES!

Start in Salford's awareness campaign to inform the community of how they can help their new project 'Start in the Park' win £50,000 from The People's Millions fund has been gaining pace.
Michelle will be on Manchester's Unity Radio 92.8FM www.unityradio.fm tomorrow morning and on Salford City Radio later on in the day to try and encourage the whole of Greater Manchester to get behind the project and vote for us when the voting telephone number becomes available on Monday from 9am until midnight.

'Start in the Park' being filmed today!

Our gardeners will be on TV!

We are very excited about our TV debut!! This afternoon our garden and its members will be filmed by ITV, to be shown on Granada Tonight on Monday 22nd November 2010.
The feature is aimed at telling the veiwing public about our new project 'Start in the Park' attracting as many votes as possible in the hope of winning a £50,000 grant from The People's Millions fund.

Planting Started in our garden

Planting in our lovely new garden has begun! Run by Louise Black and Elizabeth Hammond, the gardening team are doing a great job at preparing for the spring/summer season. After a long, snowy winter we can't think of anything better than a colourful, blooming garden!

So take a visit and watch it develop-it will truly be a wonderful place to relax during the summer months.

Garden makeover complete

We are pleased to let you know that our brand new garden is now complete. Developed using ideas from Start members and designed by David Keegan from Garden Design, it is a fantastic space and enables those with green fingers to get involved in the great outdoors.

As well as old favourites like the greenhouse dome, we have new features including colourful exhibiting walls, and a beautiful stream which runs across the garden.

'A landmark in the landscape' Start in Salford's garden book

The therapeutic and educational benefits of gardening are well documented particularly by the research carried out by Thrive and Loughborough University.

Here at START we commissioned a book that documents a year in the life of our gardening group, aptly titled by one of our members 'A landmark in the landscape'. The publication beautifully illustrates the meaning and the benefits of engaging in a community horticultural project and the impact it has on individual’s social, physical and mental and emotional wellbeing. Transcribed interviews and photographs taken by the members and truly capture the essence of the project.
