Start Youth Arts support Roger Waters at The M.E.N. Arena
In April 2011 Start in Salford was approached by a close friend and musical collaborator of Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, to assist with coordinating a children’s choir for his sell out shows of "The Wall" at the M.E.N. Manchester on 20 and 21 May and 28 June 2011.
The young people who come from schools and community groups across the City of Salford, such as The Albion High School and Walkden High School, were selected to perform the iconic track “Another Brick in the Wall” alongside Roger Waters on stage.
Starting the choir
As you can see from the picture we had a great turnout for the opening session, but we are always ready to welcome new recruits. We have a diverse range of singers and everyone is welcome, whatever the age or ability.
The session is run by professional singers and former students of Salford University, Louise Johnston and Alice Wrigley.
We are currently singing an African song, and this week we will begin practicing 'Something Inside So Strong.'
Choir practice runs every Tuesday 5.30-7pm in our top floor gallery at Brunswick house. The cost is £3 per session.
Starting Point - Watch an interview with the band
Our band, Starting Point, were recently involved in a short documentary style interview about themselves. It was shot by Kevin Eccleston and we would love you to show your support and give this a watch on youtube, the more hits it receives the more recognition for the band and their talent.
