Sponsored bike ride for Start in Salford
We have exciting news for those who would like to sponsor and support their local charity (and maybe even take part themselves)!
Two fantastic women are planning and arranging a sponsored bike ride from Manchester to Blackpool all in the name of charity. Christine, previously a volunteer with Start, and Jen who has worked with Mencap alongside Christine, both wanted to support a charity that may slip under the radar of the general public, helping them to gain more awareness and revenue. Because of this (and Christine's time spent with us) they have chosen to raise money for Start in Salford and we are so thrilled that they have!
Our day at Salford Art Gallery's Craft Fair
Salford Museum and Art gallery Autumn Craft fair. Start Creative volunteers attended the fair and sales were good. Chopping boards are still our number one seller, and the woodwork department are furiously manufacturing them to be ready for the Christmas season. The event was well attended and the volunteers did a brilliant job. A big thank you to Sian and Abdul.
World Mental Health Day
Start in Salford celebrated World Mental Health Day on Friday 8th October.
Our open day was packed full of activities and we had a great turnout of people who showed up to give their support, with many trying out new activities in our drop in sessions. Our activities ranged from bulb planting to enamelling and marquetry, so there was a variety of opportunites available to take part.
The event was a great success and helped to highlight this important day to the wider community.

Remembering Edith - Garden opening
On Thursday 10th June our Start garden was officially renamed 'Edith's Garden.'
It is a tribute to Edith who previously worked here at Start and was a treasured friend and colleague to all who knew her. The afternoon was complete with music, food and drinks and was very much a day of celebration, the focus of which being the official naming of the garden.
Liz completes the Manchester 10k run
Congratulations to Liz Shone on completing the Manchester 10k run.
Coming in with a time of 51 minutes 51 seconds she beat her score from the year before, on a day where the wet and windy weather may have made the running even more difficult. She has already vowed to be back next year with the aim to get her time even lower.
So well done Liz (and husband Julian!) for completing the run, we are very proud of you!
