Start Over Fifty news and reviews

Local Lad in Lancashire Life

Syney Cauldwell has been featured in this month Lancashire Life in conjunction with his ongoing exhibition "Cid on Canvas" at Salford Museum and Art Gallery. Please click here to read more about Cid's Exhibition.

'Cid on Canvas'

Start over Fifty stalwart member, Sydney Cauldwell has made it to the top of the stairs... literally.

Sydney's exhibition 'Cid on Canvas' can been seen on both the first and second floors of Salford Museum and Art Gallery. The display includes 40 of Sydney's paintings as well as preliminary sketches.

Considering Sydney only started painting in his late seventies, to have a major exhibition in the city art gallery at age 86 is a truly astonishing achievement.

This exhibition show-cases the variety of Sydney's work and we're sure it will be an inspiration to other older Salfordians.

Sydney Cauldwell Solo Exhibition, “Ordsall’s Own” at Ordsall Neighbourhood Centre

Start over Fifty would like to congratulate Ordsall’s own Sydney Cauldwell on a very successful solo exhibition at the Ordsall Neighbourhood Centre. Sydney or “Cid” as he likes to sign his work, was able to showcase 15 of his spectacular landscapes and seascapes all completed during 2010. The new paintings reflect Sydney’s developing style and show how assured his oil painting is on larger canvases. This exhibition was organised with the support of Ross Spanner, Orsdall and Langworthy Neighbourhood Manager, who was keen to provide a showcase for this emerging local artist.

Group renamed: 'Start Over Fifty'

Changes have occurred for our 50+ group that we feel we need to clarify to all our members.

The Creative Start 50+ group will now be known as 'Start Over Fifty,' its aim 'To Discover A New Creative You.'

The last few months have seen record numbers joining, with new venues added including Gan Eden, the Jewish sheltered accommodation, Moores House run by the Retail Trust, Ordsall Library and St John’s Community Centre in Walkden.

Insight into our group sessions

This is the Creative Start 50+ group at Ranulph Court hard at work. We have had great attendances at a number of venues and this is just one that we wanted to show off.
These groups are a great way of getting people together, sharing an enjoyment of art, as well as a good chat! It doesn't matter what the ability, only enthusiasm is required.

Check the gallery images for the artwork created here, and at other groups, and see how fantastic it is.

Wardley's wonderful exhibition

Congratulations to the Wardley group who ran an exhibition in Swinton library during September. Part of being an artist is having the opportunity to showcase your artwork, so we were delighted that their hard work and talent was available for the public to see. There were lots of paintings on display, from landscapes to portraits...and not to mention a few famous faces (see picture).
The work on display was of an excellent standard, we only wish we could add more pictures for you to see!
