Get a taste for Woodwork !

This picture shows the sort of things you could make in the woodwork taster group on a Wednesday afternoon.
If you join the group the first thing you will probably make is a small animal which you cut out and sand to a smooth finish. You get lots of help and there’s no rush so you can enjoy yourself.
You can then go on to make lots of other small items such as a spice rack or a small 3 legged stool and along the way you will learn to use a lot of woodworking hand tools in a safe way. All the things you make you can take home with you.

Mocha Parade Outreach Art Sessions

As part of the Time Out, Arts on Prescription programme there has been an outreach visual art session taking place at Mocha Parade since February 2011.

This is in addition to the sessions that take place at Start's Studios and was started due to individuals not always being able to access the main programme due to transport issues.

The sessions have been taking place weekly and led by artist Mark Jones.

The sessions are well attended, with people producing some lovely artwork. Smile

Remembering Edith - Garden opening

On Thursday 10th June our Start garden was officially renamed 'Edith's Garden.'

It is a tribute to Edith who previously worked here at Start and was a treasured friend and colleague to all who knew her. The afternoon was complete with music, food and drinks and was very much a day of celebration, the focus of which being the official naming of the garden.

A sign for Edith

We want to say a big thank you to Ian Saville for creating the wonderful new sign for Edith's Garden. Ian is the woodwork tutor here at Start and has crafted a beautiful piece of work fittingly in Edith's name. The sign takes pride of place in the newly named garden so go and take a look.
