Start Creative's Yurt commissions

Congratulations to Start Creative who have gained some fantastic commissions for their Yurt structures.

The team travelled to Grisedale National Forrest in the Lake District to install their latest Yurt. They were commissioned to build the Yurt, which is complete with insulation, log burning stove and solid front door, and will be available for bookings throughout the year for a unique, yet luxurious, camping experience.

They were also commissioned to produce Yurt style furniture to go inside.

Planting Started in our garden

Planting in our lovely new garden has begun! Run by Louise Black and Elizabeth Hammond, the gardening team are doing a great job at preparing for the spring/summer season. After a long, snowy winter we can't think of anything better than a colourful, blooming garden!

So take a visit and watch it develop-it will truly be a wonderful place to relax during the summer months.

"Hi, I'm Will, the Ceramics Coordinator at Start in Salford. In the last few months the ceramic department has shifted up a gear to become a hive of industry.

As well as this there is a new entry & level one ASENTIS program which is due to complete it’s first year in June. Well done to all those on the course everybody has made excellent progress this year!

Group renamed: 'Start Over Fifty'

Changes have occurred for our 50+ group that we feel we need to clarify to all our members.

The Creative Start 50+ group will now be known as 'Start Over Fifty,' its aim 'To Discover A New Creative You.'

The last few months have seen record numbers joining, with new venues added including Gan Eden, the Jewish sheltered accommodation, Moores House run by the Retail Trust, Ordsall Library and St John’s Community Centre in Walkden.

Swimathon Success

Congratulations to Liz, Sue and Michelle who completed their Swimathon, raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Sunday 18th of April saw our three fantastic challengers complete their task. They swam a total of 200 lengths, completing them in under an hour which is a great achievement. Clearly all that training had paid off.

So congratulations again, and well done from everyone at Start.

Rumour has it that the swimming bug has well and truly bitten. The next challenge...a one mile open water swim. Watch this space!

Gillian's Poem

We are choosing to publish a poem sent to us my one of our members. Written by Gillan Wilberforce, it is a tremendously touching and heartfelt piece of writing which deserves to be read by many. We are so pleased to be of help to Gillian, and thank her in return for her wonderful spirit and generosity.

Starting the choir

As you can see from the picture we had a great turnout for the opening session, but we are always ready to welcome new recruits. We have a diverse range of singers and everyone is welcome, whatever the age or ability.

The session is run by professional singers and former students of Salford University, Louise Johnston and Alice Wrigley.

We are currently singing an African song, and this week we will begin practicing 'Something Inside So Strong.'

Choir practice runs every Tuesday 5.30-7pm in our top floor gallery at Brunswick house. The cost is £3 per session.
