Remembering Edith - Garden opening

Pebbles for Edith
Pebbles for Edith

On Thursday 10th June our Start garden was officially renamed 'Edith's Garden.'

It is a tribute to Edith who previously worked here at Start and was a treasured friend and colleague to all who knew her. The afternoon was complete with music, food and drinks and was very much a day of celebration, the focus of which being the official naming of the garden.

As an arts based charity it would only be fitting that we crafted items for this special event. There were many things created, such as Edith's Garden sign made by woodwork tutor Ian Saville (see other news story) and also the commemorative pebbles (shown above). These were made to honour the memory of Edith and are a beautiful reminder of a person held very dear in the memory of all at Start.

A big thank you to all those who helped out for the event and attended the wonderful day. Also thank you to all who gave lovely comments about the day. Here is just one of them that we received on our website:

I work for David who designed Ediths garden. I came to the celebrations and I would just like to say what a lovely afternoon I had!! The garden is absolutely fabulous and although I didnt know Edith, Im sure she would have been so proud at what you have all achieved! Its so beautiful and Start sounds like a really worthwhile project. I fell in love with the ceramic toadstools! I will definately be calling back in at some point to buy some and have a good look around the gallery! Thanks for a fab day! Nat Rutter
